Why did you make that bulge underneath the spare wheel? is that for the gastank? why is it not in the original (2cv) space?? (there must be space, in the original that's where the engine is)
but still GREAT WORK! LOVE IT!

Rusty, the tank 'bulge' and the filler neck are purely to resemble the original. The tank on this car is where they normally are under the boot floor at the rear.
Im trying to build a relica of a VW KUBELWAGEN and because of that i want to make it look as close to the original as i posibly can but without going too over the top.
For example, on the rear panel above the boot it will have a vent panel/grill which on the VW used to feed air into the engine compartment. This car will also have that vent panel so it looks the same but on the inside it will be blanked off so that rain water cannot leak into the boot area. Thats a job for another day tho,lol _________________ If it works ok, "LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE". |

hey tony!
in the beginning i did'nt quite understand why you'd want to build a VW-replica on a 2CV-base (and i still don't honestly)...
but i must say, its starting to look like something really cool now
proportions are right, and it is good to see that you also pay attention to details.
it's fun to see the progress in all the updates, you work real quick!
finished before next WM?

Added the spare wheel dome which will also cover the K&N type air filter.
Was trying to find a suitable shape and ended up with a stainless steel mixing bowl Does the job tho
[/img]
After this i welded a stud on the top which holds the wheel through the centre hubcap hole.
Done some more on the rear end also but batteries went flat on the camera. Next time i will take some .[/img] _________________ If it works ok, "LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE". |

the latest work on the Kubel.
Headlamps fitted. Used the 2cv ones as they are very similar to the originals and i had two of them already from the donor car .
Also fitted the shovel. Had to mount it slightly differently than the original Kubel because the handle would have caused a few issues with the Police sticking up in the air.
[/img]
Also had a vent panel made for the rear as on the original Kubelwagen. This was cut out of 1.6mm mild steel using a lazer cutter. It looks fantastic .
Welded in place the towbar mounting behind the rear body panel so that it will not be seen from behind.
[/img]
Really coming along now, cant wait to get it finished and drive it up the road _________________ If it works ok, "LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE". |

I like your work. But I need to say something about the lights. I think
they are absolutely too obvious piece of 2cv desing. It would be vice to
use example some tractor lights. Its because in anycase everybody will
realise that this car is made out of 2cv. It does not need so ovbious details to
show it off. Its same in motorcycles, people use 2cv lights cause its cool
and "noone will regocnice it". Thats not true, 2cv light is very recognizable
piece of desing. It would really refresh your project to get rid of them.

Olli,
I disagree, I like the obvious bits of 2cv, lights, speedo etc. I am sure the exercise here is not to hide the fact this started as a 2cv, but rather to enjoy the fact! Many people will have no idea this is from a 2cv, but those who know will enjoy it all the more.

Hello guys. You are both right really in a way.
Ive always said its a replica and as such will NEVER be the 'real thing'.
I see your point Olli and if at the finish of the job, i dont think they look right, then i will consider changing them.
One thing worth remembering is that the headlamps will be covered with canvas covers with a small slot cut in the middle. This is what they would have had during the war for convoy driving and to avoid attack from aircraft etc and once fitted, you will not see that they are 2cv lamps(i think)
I imagine that a lot of people will take one look at it and think its an original at first. Its only when they have time to see the detail that it will become obvious its a replica.I want people with Citroen knowledge to look and notice the 2cv parts. Im hoping this will make them investigate the car in more detail.
All im looking forward to is that first drive to the MOT station for its vehicle check. I cant wait to see peoples faces as i go along the road _________________ If it works ok, "LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE". |

Hello Tony,
You've done a wonderful work on that car. But something is bothering me.... How heavy the car will be at the end with all theses sheets and metal bars? Don't you think it's gonna be too heavy for a 2cv engine? I know it not your first work on a 2cv but I remember that you where complaining about that with scar.

Hey Silc, the steel box section frame is made of thin wall steel so its fairly lite but strong. Ive used a thin guage steel plate for the panels so that shouldnt be too bad either. Im hoping that the Kubel will actually be lighter than the 2cv because there will be no glass other than the windscreen which will save a lot of weight. Also there is no interior trim and very basic seats and the other thing to remember is that its only half the height of the 2cv. All i can say is that it feels very light at the moment and is very easy to push by hand around my workshop.
Hello Etienne. The Kubel will be in Normandy three colour camo pattern, very similar to the photo below. Much more interesting than just sand colour.
