Hi Tony! Haven't been able to get on the site recently to say congratulations on a job so well done! I hope you're rightfully proud of the magnificent results! So many questions - like did you have to re-mount the seat-belts for MOT reasons? What did that perfect wiper mechanism come off? The white lettering is so convincing, though I reckon the whole thing now needs a good coat of Normandy mud to really finish it off. The white tabs on the mudguards are genius. I totally agree with the guy who suggests a tow-rope to disguise the grille, common practice on Jeeps etc. It's the only area that's a bit of a giveaway. I realise you must be deep into preparations for Salbris, but could you tell me which way you are coming through France to get there? If it were Dover-Calais and A16 I'd love to meet you at some convenient point and see it even if it's on the A-frame - we live at St.Valery on the Somme, near Abbeville. In my turn, I'm certain you'll have it featured on the front of ALL the French 2cv magazines (there are half a dozen!) so be prepared for some serious photography! Bravo!

renaud,
standard A series 'pepper pot' wiper motor, fitted upside down to keep you guessing?

Best not wrap too much rope around the front end, especially if there's hot weather due.
2CV engines do need a good flow of air coming at them in the summer...

Ken.

Sorry, Tony, on looking again at the photos see the seat belt mountings are as you first built them - I thought you'd built the top mounts on to the sides! Now I see the MG34 post - all it needs is a Karcher!!! Take the point about cooling air, especially over here in hot weather. But hey, don't forget your "essentials" for over here - paperwork (MOT, Ins, Driving Licence), plus warning triangle, stickers on headlights, Hi-vis jacket IN the car, and spare bulbs. Because you're CERTAIN to be stopped at some point - the kubel won't exactly melt into the traffic! Have a great trip!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Ive just got back from the War and Peace show which is the biggest military show in the world, with 90,000 visitors and about 6,000 vehicles on display.
The Kubel got a loit of interest whilst there and has now got a coating of 'Kent' mud, rather than Normandie.
I have also fitted a period rope to the front cross bar and down to the front chassis tow eyes which looks superb.
Renaud, sorry mate but im travelling down in the morning with another 9 cars and 20 people, 8am sailing from Dover too Dunkerque and from there who knows, so i cant tell you where we will be at any particular time, SORRY.
Ive fitted the bigger jets to the carb and its made a little improvement but i still think it neds and little more 'tinkering'.
See you soon in Salbri 'hopefully' Very Happy

Well done Tony. The car looks great and can't wait to see it next week. I can't make it until Thursday so keep your eyes open for Scar! If you fancy another challenge a man stopped me today and asked if you can build him a rat rod as well. I said I'd talk to you over a beer!

Hope Salbris went well, Tony, and look forward to seeing (? hashe/she got a name yet?) on all the 2cv mag front covers! Don't know what the reaction was like, but I really think you've got the basis of a production run there, if you wanted it. Particularly if it's a bolt-on tub kit such as a beach-buggy or lomax 424, and you'd crucify the price of competition like the Intermeccanica 81. Just a thought while looking at the white cross on one jerry-can: If you painted a proper german cross (i.e: white cross with black cross inside it) on ONE opposite side of both jerry-cans, you could use them as full markings when at shows etc, then just swap them over left-to-right for road use or in more sensitive areas! Anyway, hope you had an uneventful journey home, and can't wait to see the photos. That is, if the crowds didn't get in the way...

Renaud/Bjorn,
Cheers Guys for the kind words.
Bjorn, i think i remember seeing you although to be honest i got stopped every time i drove the car by someone or other wanting to take a photo. It was every 50 meters or so at one point, lol.
Me and my daughter Lucy drove to the local village of Salbri and were stopped in the street by people wanting a photo of the kubel.
By the way Renaud, Lucy has named the Kubel 'Kevin', so i guess he will now be known as 'Kevin the Kubel' Laughing
Had a fantastic time although the campsite was shit and the organisation was even worse Crying or Very sad Mad Evil or Very Mad
Hope Spain make a better job of it Wink Very Happy

Hey Bart,

I agree completely, but I think it would be enough just to take your HAT off! Taking your head off is a bit drastic!

Brooky.

At this years Old Style Weekend in Sweden I ran into this Kubel body kit made by Thomas Terrang to fit any Beetle between 45-70. Knowing Thomas, who is a legendary army vehicle and surplus dealer in Sweden, it is well made, probably in Thailand.
