I'm shure I have seen a picture of an engine with two carbs.
Can't remember if it was here.
But …
Any experince with some specific carbs?
And is it worth the effort?

Hi Thomas,
I think the twin carb pic was Lars' car before in went turbo? the pics seem to be lost.
Also i have seen adapters on Geoff Arches site, NES, small adapters that mount the carby under the heater box. I would assume that SU carbs would be the best option...

A friend in the UK had 2 Dellorto carbs on his 2cv. The pictures in his topic are gone though. _________________ I like to play |

Thanx Lars.
I found the pictures of the "airplane engine" too.
What carbs did you use? |

(Dutch) lomax with double 30mm Dellortho on a visa engine
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNRupet8SEs
he drove it for 1 summer, then took off the carbs, his complete front steeringsetup, kingpins, driveshafts etc were ruined. and gasmilage was only half what he had on the original Solex carb. on top speed/ higher RPM range there was not much difference compared to the Solex carb, only on low rpm's it was really fast.
and here on a rolling road test, got up to 47 HP (VISA ENGINE!!):

if it is worth it? up to you.
I'm going to try with double SU HS2 carb (32 mm also on Visa engine).

Posted a pic of a dual carb setup on the Barbot topic. Carbs are mounted on short studs/manifolds.
Keep as a golden rule that a short intake manifold gives you more HP on higher revs, a longer intake manifold gives more bottom power. Too long gives bad throttle response.
Second keep in mind that a narrow sized intake manifold allows for greater airspeed, thus enforcing a better mixture.
Lastly don't forget that your exhaust can (and will) help the intake of the air/fuel mixture. A clean combustion chamber without exhaust gasses gives way for more bang.... But do not build a flamethrowersizedchimney under your car.... 'Big pipes' do not help, you'll need a perfect balance....
For neat calculations go to this site: http://dairally.net/daihard/chas/MiscCalculators/DaiPipes.htm
I'll bet this makes everybody happy _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |

Thanks for that link that's quite interesting to play with!

Please bear in mind as well that narrow pipes and greater speed increase turbulance = flow resistance and thereby pressure drop in you intake path and so a lower effective intake pressure and less air mass in the combustion chamber.. I would try to keep the same diameter all the way as much as possible or gradually decreasing diameter. bla bla bla
It is all a matter of balance.. _________________ I like to play |

There is a lot to say about diameters, turbulence and so on. The link will provide decent info on tube sizes...........
Or ask Philip van Gool (VGS).... he knows a lot and is a brilliant engineer on 2cv engines. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |
