Here are the pics!
Prefit steering coloumn
Couldn't get the gearshifter right. Close viewing of original photographs showed that everything is placed backwards.... Don't know how Barbot didi it but I'll find a solution....
Bonnet placed. Note the bolt....
Both bolds placed. It is still a prefit but after welding these to the A-pillar the bonnet can be bolted down onto the car. Still need to alter some curves slightly but hey.... after 7 years this is just a minor detail.
Overview. Steering coloumn is not tilted as much as Barbot did but Í am a bit longer and otherwise I could not fit behind the steering wheel.... So this difference is made for obvious reasons....

Notice modified gearstick from gearbox, with that you can move the shifter more... _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |

Today it was garage time!
Fitted my birthday present: 4 sets of rubber bands wich will act as shock absorbers (just like a small Erka trailer). I will adjust/place some friction discs in the axles afterwards. This to reduce the bouncing effect these rubber bands have...
Barbot has also used these rubber bands but there are no pictures showing how he did it. So I decided to take the most obvious approach in order to get the best and safest results...
All of this is done to reduce the total weight of the car and so it was time to check how the weight and the balance of the car is. After a lot of hard work and effort you surely want to know where all of this has led to.....
I made a quick setup and did a corner weight measuring.... Without gastank, starter motor and all the tiny parts (lamps, meters etc) the car weights 305Kg's!!!! So in the end the Barbot has weighted (and will weight) approx 330 to 350Kg's
Based on a 15+ Hp tuned engine this is in the range of the early 356 Porsches (771kg/40 to 60Hp) also competing at the 24H Bol 'd Or race... Please note, the Barbot has half the weight so it is more agile and has a shorter stopping distance... (Hp/tonne calculation shows we're still missing some 11Hp's but hey, also 2 cilinders....)
Rear 47,5Kg each corner
Front 105Kg each corner

rubber bands mounted this way will not really function as shock absorber, but for suspension it's a great idea. |

Hi AZ,
I am aware that only using the rubber bands will not work... Therefore I will also use friction disks (Houdaille or Progress). They are used to dampen the bouncing effect the rubber band give.
I have a complete set of Progress Amortisseurs but as they are a bit more modern (1958) I would like to get my hands on a complete set of Houdaille Amortisseurs. They were in buisness before the World War so this is a more obvious choise.....
Still if there is anyone around the forum who exactly can tell/show me how to restore the Progress set I have then I would be very happy!!! The friction disks are totally dried-out and corroded.....
Anyone with info how to fix these???? _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |

friction material can usually be replaced by specialized companies, they do this sort of work for old clutch and brake parts, the metal parts can probably be fixed by yourself.
Maybe these guys can be of help: http://www.vulka.nl/
I only knew about the standard plate based frotteurs, but i just found this:

Hi AZ,
The items on the 3rd picture are the ones I have (I now see the Ad is from january 1956 so it's getting close to 1953). They really stiffen the suspension and are a great asset if you want some better roadhandling...
Don't know if one of the other snailers use these? If one does then I would like to know if they like them.
Thanks for the link to Vulka. I will visit the Citromobile next weekend (7 & 8 May 2016, Expo Haarlemmermeer, Vijfhuizen, Holland) and ask the experts for advice what to ask at Vulka.

Ps. For the ones abroad and interested in visiting: The Citromobile fair is only a 15 minutes drive south of Amsterdam. _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |

Today I got a call from a friend (a real 2cv insider). He was telling me some asshole is copying all my content and work and putting it on Facebook...
Well, if he (or they) asked me first there would be a base for an agreement....
He didn't..... So this piece of shit is ruining the reporting of a real and longstanding project..... I won't be posting updates anymore. No research scoops, no unknown photographs, no display at the world meeting, nothing....
Why? Becouse I really dislike freeloaders and people making name with efforts made by others.... Fuck you! Build it yourself!
More than 100k views in the past years. All done by people who love this forum and for who I have the greatest respect. I thank you all for following this topic, giving good advice and support when times got rough (my son is doing fine right now, let's hope for the best outcome). Thanks for all......
Maybe we meet again.... (the first designs of the333kg 100hp (vgs) Le Mans LMP3-look 2cv build are on my workstation......) _________________ Imagination is more important than knowledge (Einstein) |

Ahh, that is frustrating.
We all live our own lives, this is an unmistakable reference of your research and project, clearly dated before his.
I run in to this type of issue constantly, working on film action, it was when I stopped worrying about it and just pushed to get my creative work out there that I started to really succeed, otherwise you will spend to much time protecting it rather than creating it!
The greatest downfall of human wisdom and knowledge is that it is not genetic, it is learned, therefore we do not get to learn from our ancestors mistakes or triumphs we have to make them ourselves...
Post up the other guys facebook page and lets see what he is doing. Not that I am on facebook, but some good may come of it.
So glad to hear your son is doing well :-) Family is all we really have.

Is he literally copying your content and presenting it as his own? This is just plagiarism and that's against the law and it will probably be taken down if you and/or others file a complaint with FB.
If you have a link to the plagiarizer, post it on here so we're able to complain about it with FB.
But if he's just copying ideas, you can't be to mad about that, it would be a bit like the pot calling the kettle black, since the original idea is already from somebody else, and has been copied (and tried to copy) numerous times since then.
It would be a pity for us followers of your work, if you would stop sharing it with us, but more importantly, i think you're making it to hard on yourself if you stay mad about it, and stop sharing.
Lighten up and keep up the spirit, there are more important things to worry about. |
