I am fitting a 652 in my Mehari, however can anyone tell me the functions of the hoses on the carb, and the function of the 2 connections on the rubber elbow? Tried Jeroen, but it didnt shed any light on the subject.
Btw, newbie here, but i have been a member on several other lists, and been driving Mehari since 93.

I can't believe that somebody suppose to have instant replie to any question this kind of forum where answering isn't necessary for anyone..?
Well, one of these hoses is for ventilation of float chamber, another is for controlling air intake flap (cold or heated air). _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |

i guess i am spoiled with fast responses on the other forums i am on..
Okay, back to the Visa engine..
Blocking off the hot/cold hose, feeding the floatbowl ventilation to the airfilter, and blocking off the vacuum advance hose should be alright then..
Next, what airfilters will fit? I have limited height available, actually the 2CV rubber elbow is rubbing the inside of the bonne alreadyt, so looking for some sort of bolt-on pancake type.. |

Insert a piece of pipe into the original rubber elbow to attach it, i have been using it for years.

My Visa elbow is too tall due to thed connections for the hot/cold air hoses. But would a 2CV elbow be too restrictive or should i try to find a Visa elbow without the connections?
Sump breather: I was thinking about using a 2Cv reniflard and route it as on a 2CV, would this be ok? (Until further i would be using the 2CV filter, knowing its too restrictive,) |

Hello again, new question, the sump breater divides by a t-piece under the oilfiller neck. What would the best solution be: Either just block the hose for the airfilter, or fit a 2CV oilfiller neck?

Ended up with this solution.
Seems to work..
After rejetting to 135/140, it runs perfectly. The connection on the side of the elbow to the fuelbowl balances out the slight overpressure from the fan induction. Important thing to remember. Jeroen Cats calls it an overflow, but it is a venting tube. I have tested the pressure between carb and filter at 100-110, wide open throttle, and there is indeed a small overpressure, however small..
Topspeed, using a Dyanebox and 145r15 tyres, 125km/h @5800 rpms. Not bad for a Mehari. 0-100 in 23secs. |

Not just overpressure as there is no induction fan on the second generation visa engines.
They have the same type of connection between the carb lid and rubber elbow.
