Have made a fan with a "Clutch" manly for Off-Road.
Can save maybe 1 bhp? when not connected

A mechanical fan uses about 10% of engine output
So fitting an electrical fan with a temperature controlled start so it is only used when necessary is an excellent idea on anything i guess
Just need to make sure that the aircooled engine is getting enough flow from the new fan (whether it is running or not) _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

this is not an electric fan, this is a mechanic fan with cluch. In combination with a temperature gage on the dash, a very good idea! I think the engine will last longer becourse it will be on working temperature quicker. _________________ look for "sundive live" on youtube and be startled by my weird musical mind |

Hey Pete, well done! looks pretty good, only got to optimize the operation a bit as I guess you don't run beside the car with a tyrelever all the time

The tyre-lever was an option on the Mk 1 design. :) |

not really, with the mechanical fan with cluch you don't have to worry if the fan will move enough air becourse the fan will turn as fast as the original fan. With the electric driven fan that is not nessecarely the case. That was your point in your earlier post. _________________ look for "sundive live" on youtube and be startled by my weird musical mind |

I suppose someone must have the CFM rating of original 2cv fan somewhere to compare to aftermarket electric ones
But on BHP point of things, electric or electro clutch fan is same same when it's running. _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

It’s also great if you have a 4x4 as it stops the fan from getting smashed when you go through deep water |

Fan is constructed with the Magnetic Clutch from a AC pump from a breakers€20. Mounts are attached to the Engine Mount bolts and the oil cooler mount.
Special parts are the hub to fit the crank €90!!! and a laser cut plate €10 for the fan pulley to hold the 2CV fan.

For how long can you drive with fan off before heat problems? And when you need the extra 5hp you are going full blast anyway, needing all cooling you can get. |

Only a few km, in my part of the UK (very hilly). Have a temp switch on the cylinder head, this switches the fan on.
The main reason for the fan is when 4x4 off-road in mud and water, the fan is like a "muck spreader" or else it gets broken.
