drums, even worse, you didn´t leave the park break on or adjusted it a little bit to tight? We had this with a dyane from my brother in law, loss of power, no top speed, got very very hot. After a while the heating tubes catcht one fire _________________ 2CV, with Visa turbo charged |

I have no idea how ignition timing and advance could go wrong at higher revs.
Anybody? could it be a coil which isn't good enough for high revs...?
Good luck! _________________ I like to play |

Checked Brakes are ok,
Also checked the Valve lift, equal on all valves... Valve timing is also correct, Piston at TDC with valve rocking...
Need to check the ignition advance with a strobe light.
Valves where a bit tight, maybe, i'll drop the oil and replace the filter tomorrow and see if i'm anywhere closer to solving the problem...

One time I changed one of the tiny bolt inside the ignition box by a longer one (the one that hold the moving point, if Iremember well) because it was a bit damaged and I had no other. It hit the backing plate, making a little bump in it, that in turn block the displacement of the moving mass of the centrifugal advance... _________________ 0 to 70 in the same day! |

Hi Harley,
that's the _only_ way to check the timing imho, at full advance using a strobe.
For 9.0:1 pistons with 98 octane fuel it usually needs to be 'around' 33 degrees BTDC, but with higher CR pistons or lower octane fuel the total advance will need to be less.
Ignition which is retarded from the ideal results in power loss and overheating, but I guess you already knew that...
I did find a 123 unit which gave 10 degrees less total advance than it should, but Albertronics kindly exchanged it for one with the correct amount of advance.

FIXED?
How? NO IDEA!
I did an oil and filter change, adjusted the tappets (slightly, again), tried a different set of magnets for the 123 ...
Could it have been the oil??? not more than 2months old and the sump plug magnet was spotless...
Back on the road
Thankyou everyone for your help and ideas, i now know my 2cv so much better! and i am glad it had nothing to do with the efi mods i made as everyone suspected

Too much oil..?
It can make loss of power... _________________ Make it today, tomorrow it's probably illegal... |
