I've heard that the small item pictured is a "helper" for a worn out original breather.
By looking at price of replacement new original breather I'd rather go the Reed Valve technology route and buy an Ecas one when I'm gonna change my old one. (soon) _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

I put the new reed breather on the water manometer to test its efficiency...
It nearly pushed all the fluid out My 2cv guy was suprised, then he thought maybe it is to much vacuum...

Hi Harley,
If you blow back into the reed unit does it block completely ?
The original breather has a small hole to reduce the efficiency of the valve. Maybe the new unit needs a small hole in it too, so that when you blow back it leaks a bit.

Bob,
why would you wish to limit the crankcase vacuum which the valve can produce?
The higher the vacuum, the less chance of leakage at the vulnerable points and in any case, 50 to 60 mm water gauge is only about 0.07 psi, which isn't really a lot...
One thing you Raiders might do though, when wading through rivers and other aquatic adventures is ( temporarily) block the exit from the breather/reniflard to create positive crankshaft pressure for the duration of the crossing.
That way you shouldn't get any water sucked in through the microturbine at the front end of the camshaft.
Ken
p.s. Your Raid car scored 11/10 in my book.

May i ask how this is installed? I also have an open airfilter installed (upright, straight on the carb). But in the 90degrees rubber tube you have installed, a small hose goes in. Where does that lead to?
also, the side pipe on the oil filler tube has a smaller filter installed? |

I tried it just like the original visa carburator, but it doesn't work.
The engine is slower with the tube fitted like the photo, so I pulled the tube off and closed it at the end. It looks likes the tube is sucking the fuel out of the carburator.
Now it's a useless part of the carburator.
Maybe there is someone with an explanation why it works on a visa but not with my engine and carburator?
This is a photo of a Visa carburator.
