I think I read about it right here, on this forum, only I can't remember where, since I read the whole forum at once, in under 48 hrs!
Anyway, info on air suspension is not hard to find (try Wikipedia ),
and for the latest in that field check the future Citroen D5, kind of a successor to DS (whatever). It features a pneumatic suspension.
I much prefer the hydropneumatics, I even thought about making a real hydro/GS-engined deuche but then you can't lower it the way I'd like to.
And it's gotta be low. |

a friend of mine is also looking for airride stuff for the 2cv.
one big problem could be that the suspension the otherways round than on other cars. the springs are pulled.
that would mean if you ex change your springs with "airbag". the car would go down when you put air in it. :)
but that would also be cool.
airride-bags in the correct size could fit in the coating for the springs.
the next problem is to "link" the airbags with the rest of the suspension.
i think that kind of bags could cost about 150€ per unit?
and don't forget that you need a compressor.
:)
if i had the money and the time i would buy the stuff and try it.
but i don't have. :) _________________ in rust we trust... |

For a 2cv easiest way would be remove original suspension totally and make
new subframes over suspension arms and place the bags there.
You can make airRide system whit about 600-1000euros. You need quite a
lots a stuff: 4 bags, compresor, airlines, air valves, presure bottle...
Here's kit for some car:

I think its perhaps more easyer to use cylinder instead of "bags" like I used on one of my car
on a 2cv the system is under the car and personaly I prefer have this type of cylinder instead of bags ( you must know that when you are maxy lowered the bag is bigger and if it touch the floor it's out......
a friend of mine had this problem on a golf he drive very low on the hyghtway the bag rub with the wheel and pschhhhhhhh...
the car is down put on the road...
the cylinder on my car at the place of the original schock

Who makes/sells these cylinder systems?
Is the price about the same as for bags?

it was about three years ago a the begin of airride in france it was difficult to import the system and it costed about 1000 euros but with digital screen and some more little "gadget"
I think the price is same with bags _________________ near the road.... |

I just thought about it that you have als air cilinders that work in the opposite direction, just like spring system of 2cv. _________________ 2CV, with Visa turbo charged |

There is a much easier way to do the "bags". I have bought a box of Autoballans, from the 80s. I know most of you don't like 80s customizing but anyway...
These are rubber balls that are inflatable up to 3 bars and were used as auxilliary suspension, to keep the car high when you have a heavy load.
Now, imagine placing them inside the spring box, between the front and rear spring (I have a set which are the correct diameter). When you inflate them, the springs get pushed out. If you only push them out a few cms, the ride height will drop 15-20cms, while you keep the original spring characteristics.
The only work to fit them would be to open up the spring boxes and make a hole in them for the air hose to go through to a little 12V tire compressor inside the car. These are cheap and only have to produce 3 bars. A set of valves would complete the setup. If anybody is interested in a set, contact me.
PS: added bonus: when the system breaks or fails for whatever reason, the car comes back to original ride height! _________________ Don't ask me what I think of you 'cause I might not give the answer that you want me to.

thats a good idea Bart.
Question I'm asking is whether the stress on the systems won't be too high ? _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.
