Hey guys

here is the Follow up of the Alfa engined AMI Super...

Last you saw of it, it was like this :

Basically, I "just" had to restore the chassis and engine, everything was really dirty/greasy/rusty, replace all suspensions and stuff that wears out, rebuild engine and clean Gearbox (impossible for a home mechanic to rebuild).

I also had to modify the chassis, because it was a Right hand Drive car, and I will be driving in France mainly, so It's best to put the steering wheel on the left side...

here goes :

chassis dismantling, removed top sheet metal and sent it to be sandblasted :

Chassis came back perfect...

New lid welded in place :

Axles cleaned and repainted, chassis slowly gets rebuilt :

AMI Super Estate Suspension springs, Gabriel Red Ryder Shock Absorbers...

Fresh Brakes...

Engine gets taken apart, checked (piston rings in suprisingly good condition) I rebuilt the cylinder heads and changed all gaskets + water pump and timing belt kit

Primer, and lots of it...

Same treatment on the wheels and gearbox :

It's really motivating to see things all clean and ready to fit back together...

Next step is the Body....

that is what we want to see. Curious how the ami-super chassis has the same building has a 2cv chassis. But stronger with thikker metal.

Hey Robin

It's true that it is similar... however, this AMI Super has been modified a lot to get the Alfa Engine to fit, so what you see is not standard...

Little update.

Thanks to Pascal, I found this in a local scrapyard...

1964 AZU...

With glaçauto window kit...

Super clean, no significant rust :

Apart from the floors, of course...

At first this Alfa chassis was supposed to get my AMI6 Z top body, but as that's been in (non)progress for ages, and i wanted to drive this car, I needed something clean and straightforward to fit on...

Olli made this photoshop picture of a 2cv : Sahara GS :

I thought the idea of a 2cv without bonnet was ultra cool... but you needed something slightly more showoff than a measly 602 to have a stylish ride....

I think I had just the thing.... Laughing Laughing Laughing

So, it was going to be a 64 AZU Glaçauto with no bonnet... Laughing

Minor quick repairs (at the time I was supposed to finish it for the french national meeting) :

And on to the chassis for mock up of stuff (i had to relocate radiator, make new pedal box, need to design handbrake system....)

Now, as you know, A type bodies bolt on to any A type chassis... Especially 2cv Vans that have big suspension springs Laughing Laughing Laughing

I just shortened the chassis at the back (cut off 18 cm) and it was ready to be slapped on :

With the headlamps finished :

Front fenders where cut out, because of the width of engine, and I welded original lower fender supports onto the chassis rails :

Tadaaaaa!!!

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Next, I went back to the drawing board....

Hmmm... a 2cv van... used by all sorts of companies... but this has windows... Rolling Eyes

I hate AZUs with windows on the side, they look bad... but this, totally windowed, had something clean to it...

So... what can I do with this... ?

It's gonna be a fast f**king van, too, if you compare 120 BHP to the original 12 BHP... that's like just a bit more than standard...

So, it's a mix of fast and slow, a van, goods transportation....

Then it struck me :

slow, van, windows :

2cv >> 2 chevaux >> 2 horses >> to the hearse

YEAH !!!

I just had to invent a Phoney undertaker company name...

So, I decided on colours etc, and slapped the paint on (it's a really quick job with just hammerite style rustproof paint, but I sprayed it on, I didn't brush paint Laughing )

And, slowly...

It starts to look a bit more like a car...

héhéhé....

A project based on graphic impact for the "joke" to work, needs attention to details...

I had these cool taillights in stock...

I wanted to use them, but as they are designed for motorbikes, they have the number plate light underneath, shining down... Rolling Eyes

didn't want to weld it shut...

So I had a better idea Idea

"Let there be light..."

A bit of Marco Almera Artwork makes anything death related a bit more colouful Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
