How much thread do you need to leave inside on the tie rods to be safe? |
1,5cm. If you go lower buy (or build) longer tie rod. _________________ www.super2cv.com |

Shaun. If you want to go really low you will need to unbolt the front rubber bump stops from the chassis and cut them in half in a vise. This will allow a bit more free travel with out the sus' arms bottoming out.
On the rear suspension, i unscrew the ends off the rods and remove them from the car. You can then cut them in half and fit a half inch piece of tube in the middle and weld both sides. The extra length will allow you to adjust it down to the ground if you want. You wil also need to remove the rear wheels and with a hacksaw cut the rear bumpstops down a bit.
This does work and is 100 percent safe as i have this on both my cars and have done thousands of miles with no problems. _________________ If it works ok, "LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE". |

Cheers guy's.
I will probably go with standard tie rods for now and maybe go lower when I have the time. _________________ In-the-Shed Speed Shop. |

Yes, rise up your car. Another option is to put 10 bar preasure on your front tyres.

One can also put a 1cm spacer (like the alu ones for the rear axle) under the front axle. This raises the axle 1cm in the car and turns the kingpin angle back a little bit. _________________ I like to play |

Sorry but I think Germany is one of the country where you can modify a car the most !! Just look on this forum, all german guys drive street legal ! Even with channeling !! Where else in Europe a channeling would be street legal ?? _________________ www.super2cv.com |

NL, UK are definitaly easier, or at least there is a great gray area for modifications. For example turning front arms is absolutly not done in Germany, in the NL it is probably not allowed either, but you should get it through a dutch MoT no prob. _________________ I like to play |

No they are not legal, but if they are done nicely who can tell? I had a few MoTs and they only picked up on them being turned this year. It passed. |

My MOT didn't even notice the front axle had been narrowed 7cm on the AMI6, even though it was 3cm off being too narrow to roll onto the inspection pit without falling in
Didn't even notice the 13s on the rear axle either

Very good for you but that is the point, the TüV guys will notice the 13 inch without a shadow of a doubt, turned arms most likely just as well, and it will definately fail. They required my 2cv to have standard ride hight when I took it for registration (apparently tougher test) and in such case only a cow would miss turned arms.
Anyway I'm not too bothered as I don't have time for any radical project anyway. _________________ I like to play |
