You should leave the car in it's original bodywork. The patina is cool and it seems very well preserved.

The natural ageing of paint over time cannot be properly imitated with any technique whatsoever.

i agree whith joseph, the natural patina is beautiful , it's a crime to re-paint the car... she's lost her identity for your project you can take evry 80's 2cv and you make fake patina on...

(i appologize for my bad english !!!)

maybe i should clarify myself, im not talking about preserving the patina, im talking about the rust:

inside rear fenders: each with a big hole (not yet on the photo,, but i hammered them out later)

sills, passengers rear (try and solve this with owatrol Very Happy)

sills, driver front

and body work french farmer style: aluminium and rivets to cover up the holes

if i replace the sills, then i have to repaint the car yes? or how do you guys solve it? paint a part of the car? doesnt that look even worse?
(btw i never spoke of repainting the car, my first intentions were to preserve the patina Wink )

okay ... sometimes there´s really no chance to save the patina Sad

But "Brunox Epoxy" is said to be a very got rustprotection and primer for rusting metal.

I don't see the problem saving the patina, as the patina isn't in the floor anyway.
You can just put a new floor and sills in. Paint all that. Put the alu trim back on the sills. In the end the patina is hardly touched.

sounds like a plan then. i was afraid that the difference between the old and new paint would be to big.

paint the (small) surfaces that are going to be changed with the same colour paint, then sand it lightly with ultra super fine paper, then you can work out some subtle age effects with a slightly lighter tone applied very lightly with rags and then resand.

it's not going to hurt if you get it slightly wrong, its not like your repainting a door or something.

I totally cut out the bottom of my rust patina AMI6 windscreen bay and i got it looking aged with spray cans and different sandings

Donat's 2 CV has complete new floors and sills (inside was like new):

Cannot see anything from outside !

(and please please again don't spoil everything by putting a ripple bonnet on a 65)
