Hmmm
You found that when you took the engine apart, or when you took it apart again after (badly) putting it back together ?
You could probably try reshaping the tubes with nice working on a steel bar with a brass hammer, but I can't say that will solve the problem, if there was one in the first place. did the engine leak oil in that area of not ? _________________ "That bumper fits there like sunglasses on pig" O.E.

I found this problem by accident, when i had to take off the cylinder head. Good thing, otherwise i would have to take the engine all apart again soon.
I already learned from 2cv.nl that there are ways to getting this fixed. I will still be looking for AM112 heads, maybe that will be even less expensive.
The damage can only be backtracked to the initial builder of my deuche, the guy whom i bought it from. This is the first time for me taking it apart.
Well, it gives me the oppurtunity to take my time and clean the engine properly, revise what needs revising and make it look nice again :) |

I just wanted to say that too. I had that problem as well some years ago. To solve it I bought new pushrod tubes from BCC and fitted them with a certain locktight.
If you can't find on 2cv.nl please get back. _________________ I like to play |

Just called our local specialist (and friend) and he says the tubes are pretty easy to replace. He will put in a heli coil. Next week i will be able to fit it, until then i will focus on cleaning and inspecting the rest of the engine. |

As supplied, the tubes are a push fit in the cylinder head, then they need to be expanded using a rather specialised Citroen tool.
Even though I couldn't find one of those, an expanding anchor bolt ("Rawlbolt" in the UK ;o) does this job.
It seems to take longer to remove the damaged tubes than to fit new ones, because the old ones need to be cut lengthways inside the cylinder head to avoid damaging the head.
Ken.
( Wondering what a helicoil has to do with pushrod tubes? ) |

Hi Ken, thanks for the info. I can get another head with tubes still installed for 15 euro this weekend, so i think i will just replace the whole thing.
About the helicoil, that is the other thing that would have to be done to this head in order to be usable again. The helicoil will be placed in one of the screwholes of the intake manifold. |

Hi Dennis,
yep, at that price for a usable cylinder head, it's probably not worth the trouble of fitting new tubes.
It's unfortunate how frequently people make this mistake when reassembling an engine, only realising when there's a huge oil leak after the engine is started.
To avoid this happening, the trick is to carefully push the cylinder head into place and use fingers only to tighten the lower cylinder head nut until the head is seated.
If a spanner/clef is used too early, it's sooo easy to crush the ends of the tubes...
Ken

I will be very cautious fitting the new head on the cylinder. Now, since i will be cleaning the engine, any tips or recommendations? I think i will take it all apart. I am halfway, and i plan on fitting a lighter flywheel as well. Secondly, i want to take out all parts that are easy and cheap to replace with new parts. |

I've been moving ahead and i took out the engine to give it a good wash :)
Need to replace the clutch diafram part, will replace the piston rings, and some more small knick knacks. |
